Capnolog supports anesthesiology and neurological surgery today, with ENT and general surgery next. The specialty you pick at setup sets the fields and the counts. In neurosurgery, you log by CPT code. Five anesthesia fellowship packs ship too: Adult Cardiothoracic, Pediatric, Pediatric Cardiac, Regional & Acute Pain, and Obstetric. Medical students have their own install for rotations.

The ACGME has no bulk import, so each case goes in one at a time. In anesthesiology, Capnolog 1.3.0 fills ACGME's own form from your iPhone, and you check the form and press Submit. On a computer, the browser extension prefills the official ACGME form, in beta for neurosurgery. There too, you press Submit yourself.

Capnolog never asks for a patient name, a date of birth, or a record number. The one exception is the ACGME list the extension reads back, whose free-text Case ID box sometimes holds a record number. Capnolog masks that Case ID down to the last four characters at both edges before storing anything. Your de-identified case log syncs to Capnolog's zero-PHI server by default. Turning off Case sync in Settings stops the sync and removes the log from the server.

Voice entry works on every supported iPhone (iOS 17 or later) and on Android 13 or later. Tapping chips works on every phone the app runs on. In anesthesiology, voice dictates plans and notes. In neurosurgery, you can also say the operation. The parse runs on-device, fully offline, so nothing you say leaves the device.

Yes, in anesthesiology. Paste tomorrow's OR board, or build the plan from templates. The next day, confirm each case with one tap, or log the whole day at once.

Capnolog knows only the block schedule you enter once in Settings. A new case then opens at that rotation's hospital. In anesthesiology with Premium, the form also leads with that rotation's fields. The schedule changes what you see, never what is counted or saved.

Yes. Paste a case list, or import a CSV or PDF. Capnolog reads the list into drafts you review before anything is saved. Cases already in your log are not added twice. The document and its text never leave that screen.

Yes, both. Search the archive by procedure, room, surgeon, or attending, or tap a day on the calendar strip. A deleted case, plan, or note stays in a bin for thirty days and restores in a tap.

Yes. One free account links your devices and the extension. Sign in with Apple on iPhone, or with a personal email address on either phone. The account holds an account ID, program, specialty, and class year, never your name or your cases. Logging and export stay free. The Privacy Policy covers verification and deletion.

On iPhone, iCloud Backup keeps your full log end-to-end encrypted in your own iCloud, under a key only your devices hold. On Android, the encrypted backup goes to a folder you pick, under a passphrase only you hold. Either way, a new phone restores everything in one tap. Neither backup reaches Capnolog's servers.

Capnolog collects optional, anonymous analytics on which features you use, tagged with training year and program. The analytics never include patient details, your name, case content, or a case ID. Turn analytics off anytime in Settings. Crash reporting is a separate opt-in.

Turn on “Share with program” on a template, or use the share row on an attending note. Co-residents then see the template or note inside the app. Record numbers and dates are stripped from a note before the note leaves your phone. You review the redacted wording first.

Patient details are kept only until the case logs, always encrypted. The patient block, history, and diagnosis sit apart from your de-identified log and never go into a shared file or an ACGME export. The free-text procedure name and plan notes stay after logging, so keep patient identifiers out of those two fields. With iCloud Backup on, everything here is also in your end-to-end-encrypted iCloud backup.

In anesthesiology, Capnolog tracks two lines per category: the ACGME minimum and the national average volume. Neurosurgery has no published national-average tier, so Capnolog tracks the ACGME defined-category minimums for Lead and Lead + Senior.

There is no Mac version yet. A Mac companion for planning and reviewing cases is in development and will be part of Premium.

Yes. Capnolog runs on Android 7.0 or later, from the same codebase as the iPhone app. There is no Play Store listing yet, so you get a signed build to install. Backup writes an encrypted file to a folder you choose, under a passphrase you set. The app lock uses fingerprint or face unlock. Sign-in uses a personal email address.
